It is no surprise that many techno companies offer a range
of perks and other benefits to attract or keep their employees. These special offers
have the effect of keeping the employee’s work place happier and make them be in
the office more often. Because if you give your employees enough reasons to be around
the office ,you are in likelihood to see productivity of the company go up.
Why on earth do you wanna head home when "everything" you need
is at work? ;)
Google as always goes a step further in making their employees
happier with a whole range of perks and special offers!
The buzz about the special offers Googlers enjoy is well
known and last week the search engine giant went further by announcing that the
company has decided to start paying the spouses or domestic partners of workers
who die while employed at the company.
In an interview to Forbes, Google's Chief People Officer, Laszlo
Bock said,
“We’ve announced death benefits at Google….
Should a U.S. Googler pass away while under the employ of
the 14-year old search giant, their surviving spouse or domestic partner will
receive a check for 50% of their salary every year for the next decade . ”
Want more? , He also confirmed that there is “no tenure requirement” for this benefit, which
means all the 34 thousand(!) employees of the search engine giant will come under this benefit! The employee's
children will each receive $1,000 every month till they reach 19, or 23 in the
case of a full-time student.
Remember, this is only after they die!
So, All Googler’s soul can now happily Rest In Perks (Peace)
R.I.P!
But don’t forget the other awesome offers they enjoy when
they are alive and kicking (working)!
In Mountain View, California, just a few miles south of the San Francisco Bay, there's a complex of buildings that serves as the headquarters for world’s most powerful company in the technology industry!
In Mountain View, California, just a few miles south of the San Francisco Bay, there's a complex of buildings that serves as the headquarters for world’s most powerful company in the technology industry!
It’s the home of Google Inc, Welcome to Googleplex !
The four core buildings, about 506,310 sq ft land, which
were built for and earlier occupied by Silicon Graphics Inc (SGI), the company which
created digital dinosaurs in the film "Jurassic Park."
A statue of a Tyrannosaurus Rex still stands tall at the Google campus!
Let’s look at some perks,
The Google campus is enabled with a 24 hour service of,
an on-site haircut free of charge, a gym filled with latest equipments,
swim-in-place swimming pools with lifeguards on duty to keep
employees safe.
Employees can play against each other in a quick game of Ping-Pong, billiards, or football at various game tables in several parts of the campus.
Not just that, there is a whole place for video games for employees who prefer to let their thumbs do all the work. More things like,Dinosaur bones in the courtyard, massive spaceship replica floating from the ceilings, old fashioned phone booths, huge flat screens in the lobbies that display different graphs and metrics about various Google usage, etc. add up the fun part.
Finish playing and head to the laundry facilities available to employees on site
with dry cleaning services all free
The healthcare plan of Google includes on-site medical staff. If an employee suffers an injury or feels ill while at work, he or she can make an appointment with a doctor anytime and free ofcourse.
Stressed out? The employees can receive a massage from a licensed therapist in a private room and even yoga classes! All free ofcourse
Google allows its employees to use up to 20 percent of their workweek to pursue special projects. That means for every standard workweek, employees can take a full day to work on a project unrelated to their normal workload. Google claims that many of their products in Google Labs started out as pet projects in the 20 percent time program.
New dads enjoy six weeks of paid leave while moms can take 18 weeks after the birth of a child.
New parents get time off and some extra spending money to help them welcome their new bundle of joy.
You can have your dog in the office campus, but no cats
allowed!
Googlers and their families are covered with travel insurance and emergency assistance, even on personal vacations.
Google’s transportation benefits like biodiesel commuter shuttles, electric car-share program, plug-in charging stations for employees, and fleet of Bikes provide eco-friendly convenience for Googlers. The commuter shuttles are very comfortable, have Wi-Fi and are frequent too.
That’s not all, here is my favourite part, Google feeds its employees well ,no Googler on campus is supposed to be further than 100 ft from a food source at any given time!. If you work at the Googleplex, you can eat breakfast, lunch and dinner free of charge. There are several cafés located throughout the campus, and employees can eat at any of them!
Wondering why Google is going this much far in making their employees
feel comfortable and home, it’s because Google knows that brilliant people are
one of the rarest things on earth! ;)
Yup, Google rocks!
(P.S: Dear Google, I’m not a Genius Techie, I don't have a
PhD either, but I would be available for an interview anytime, hope you have openings
for ‘dummies’, thank you) :P
