Google Earth helps Archaeologist unearth new Pyramids!

Gone are the days where exploration meant adventures trip around the word and finding new places, like Indiana Jones did.

Great pyramid

Phew, it’s so simple now, download Google Earth and just spin the globe! Places you wish to visit are just a search away! Meet Angela Micol of Maiden, North Carolina, she claims that she has discovered two lost Egyptian pyramid complexes, not with any archaeological tools, but just Google Earth!

So, what do we call people like her?

 hmmm..Internet Explorers!

Ok, She describes her as a “satellite archaeology researcher “and said that, by using satellite imagery from Google Earth, she has identified two sets of unusual desert formations that could be lost Egyptian pyramid complexes 5,000 miles away from her.

Site 1

One of the sites contains four mounds with triangular plateaus. The largest mount is 620 feet (188 metres) wide, three times the size of the Great Pyramid.

The other site contains a 150-foot wide (45 metres-wide), square-shaped, truncated mound, and three smaller mounds which Micol says contain diagonal elements similar to the pyramids of the Giza Plateau.

Site 2

These sites have been verified as undiscovered by Egyptologist and pyramid expert Nabil Selim, but other archaeologists attribute the formations to the forces of nature. “There is a slight chance that one or two could be pyramids, but it doesn’t look like it to me,” Egyptologist Bob Brier, a senior research fellow at the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University.

James Harrell, professor emeritus of archaeological geology at the University of Toledo, gave a harsher assessment “It seems that Angela Micol is one of the so-called ‘pyridiots’      (   ) who see pyramids everywhere.

Her Dimai and Abu Sidhum ‘pyramids’ are examples of natural rock formations that might be mistaken for archaeological features provided one is unburdened by any knowledge of archaeology or geology.

In other words, her pyramids are just wishful thinking by an ignorant observer with an overactive imagination.”

Apparently, She is not sharing the coordinates of the two sites, fearing they may be hunted by treasure hunters! It would be interesting if her claims are proved true…..not now! We  have to wait and see where this goes!

Now, let’s see other such freaky claims using Google Earth!

Atlantis?

Few years back some Google Earth scouts believed they had found the resting place of the ancient lost city of Atlantis. The site was located just off the coast of North-western Africa. The “Atlantis” find came shortly after the search giant launched Google Ocean, which allows users to explore the ocean’s floor using Google Earth. But, Google later explained that, it was just a collection of ship tracks created by a boat gathering images of the ocean floor, a process called echo sounding.

See this fighter jet found parked near an apartment  in  Paris.

Valet parking!

Ya!Looks like a Flying Car. (Harry , is that you!)

Harry inside?

KFC claimed it’s the first ad that can be seen from space.

And this Heart-shaped Galesnjak island  also called love island   highlighted by Google Earth is a romantic paradise. The 130,000 square yard came to spot light after its unusual shape was highlighted on Google Earth.

Symbol of Love!

Ahem, After all this awesome features to explore world, some people use Google Earth just to see the sky view of their House!
