The Discovery of “God Particle”: What it means to you?
"The TechStrip Particle" |
Everyone's talking/tweeting about the 'God particle' but
what if someone asks you to explain it.
Oh!Thats too difficult, so here is TechStrip helping you out to
understand the Higgs Boson discovery.
First up, let’s look at the scientific explanation of what
they actually found.
"The Higgs boson is an elementary scalar particle first posited in 1962, as a potential byproduct of the mechanism by which a hypothetical, ubiquitous quantum field – the so-called Higgs field – gives mass to elementary particles. More specifically, in the standard model of particle physics, the existence of the Higgs boson explains how spontaneous breaking of electroweak symmetry takes place in nature."
No, you aren’t the only person confused after reading that,
too scientific isn’t it.
So, how to explain it to a common man!?
Possibly the biggest discovery ever can be explained in Simple
English.
Here we go,
"The Higgs Boson is the missing particle of Standard Model of physics. It’s a type of subatomic punctuation with a weight somewhere between a tiny semicolon and an invisible comma. Without it the universe would be a meaningless cloud of gibberish” said the Guardian.
Looking back in time, Higgs is the last missing piece of the Standard
Model, the theory that describes the basic building blocks of the universe.
In
1964, three scientists, Higgs, Brout and Englert, predicted, it must exists to
explain the most important property of all matter – it’s mass. Till yesterday,
this wasn’t experimentally confirmed!
Higgs-Boson |
This is a huge breakthrough in science because;
the
discovery would confirm the Standard Model of physics. Other particles
predicted by this theory have already been detected. With this Higgs Boson particle
scientists can look at other riddles of the Nature!
The Higgs boson particle is also called The God Particle.
Reports explain this name misleading as Nobel winning physicist Leon Lederman
wanted to title his 1993 book ‘The Goddamn Particle: If the Universe is the
Answer, What is the Question?’ But his editor changed it to ‘God particle’. The
nickname stuck though most scientists.
So, this is not exactly the God Particle
but just named as one!
Meanwhile Tweeples didn’t miss an opportunity to take a dig
at this difficult-to-understand physics. Here are some really funny tweets on
the serious discovery:
"CERN release microscopic image of The God particle. It's...Oh Jesus.... SWEET MOTHER OF JESUS. NO.NO."
CERN release microscopic image of The God particle :P |
"Higgs and Boson are frantically searching for the Rajinikanth Particle."
"This entire finding of CERN, God Particle, Higgs Boson, is sounding mildly like a con job. A matter of some conCERN."
“Are You There God Particle? It's Me, Average Person That Doesn't Understand You"
"Reminder: Higgs is an atheist, and Lederman named it "the goddamn particle", but embarrassed publisher changed it to "Godparticle"."
"Athiest Higgs Boson: Since we're now pretty sure it actually exists, can we stop calling it 'the God particle'?"
"Breaking: God Particle opts out of Lanka tour."
"I think every child will be creating a Big Bang in the physics lab 20 years from now for their practical exams"
"I won't do any God Particle jokes. #Atheist"
